Hatzel & Buehler provided the electrical installation for the University of Pittsburgh’s new Upper Campus Chiller Plant. This new facility includes added utility needs for chilled water and an electrical substation for numerous buildings around the upper campus and significant capacity for future campus growth.  Hatzel & Buehler electricians installed industrial grade electrical equipment in a new 28-section medium voltage switchgear lineup and (3) new facility generators and paralleling gear for over 5 MW of redundant power to feed (3) new 2000-ton capacity chillers and other campus buildings on the 5KV distribution loop. In addition, a 480V switchgear line up was installed for building services and other mechanical systems. The facilities building evolution took place over a 24-month period and utilized BIM/VDC modeling to allow for an accurate and timely build over that span.
