The Drexel University Recreation Center is a 3-story addition to the existing Daskalakis Athletic Center, known as the “DAC”. This $41.6 million, 84,000 square foot building more than doubled the size of the existing athletic center. The new recreation center features a basketball court, squash courts, a suspended running/walking track, a multi-purpose gym, panoramic fitness rooms, and locker rooms. The building contains many “green” features as part of Drexel’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Hatzel & Buehler’s work at the new recreation center included new HV incoming feeders to the new electrical room, a new generator, power distribution and equipment feeders, branch power and lighting, lighting control systems and a new fire alarm system including an existing system interface. Hatzel & Buehler was also responsible for the coordination, layout and installation of the conduit systems from the existing “DAC” to and throughout the new recreation center for data, security, telephone, closed circuit TV, and the intercom systems.
